Your parents car will be a good bet. If you have to get your own car, have your parents add you to their policy. Otherwise, get a car that is safe, slow and gets good gas mileage and the rates should be ok. Compact cars like a camery, kia, taurus, cavalier and etc.. should be good money savers.

Many many factors go into the rating for your insurance premium.
Besides the obvious (don’t get tickets, don’t get in accidents, etc.) there are other ways to lower your insurance.
Some vehicles are more expensive to insure than others. Before you buy, get quotes from an agent to see which car is the cheapest to insure. You may be surprised which ones are less.
Next, watch your mileage. The less you drive, the cheaper your insurance will be.
Choose your coverages wisely. There is a fine line between under and over insuring yourself. You may be paying for more coverage than you really need.
The area in which you live also plays a major role in how much your premiums will be. The more cars and accidents that occur in your area, the more your insurance will cost.
      Hope this helps

Any sedan or coupe will do since your age and driving record play a much larger role in your insurance price. As long as you don’t get a luxury car (lexus/mercedes etc) and you have a clean driving record you should be able to get the cheapest price possible for your age. You will be hit with a really high rate though, but getting a normal sedan – toyotas/Volkswagen/nissan/ford/chevy should get you a lower rate.

What to tell car insurance agent to get lowest possible insurance?
Hello, my son (20 years old) is about to buy a used car and I am trying to add him to our policy. The agent says he’s gonna ask some questions about how he will use it. Obviously he’ll use my answers to these questions to price the insurance for the new (used) car.

What are somethings I can say that will get me the lowest insurance? Thanks!

Basically, you are asking how to lie correctly to get a cheaper rate than you should. Who do you think answers these insurance questions? We are all probably professionals.

On that note, the only questions your son will be asked would be about usage of the vehicle. For instance, if your son is delivering pizzas and fails to mention it, they would try to deny coverage for material misrepresentation.

You should really have your son get his pwn policy at his age. This way, if he causes a serious accident, your assets would not be jeopardized.
